Motion Capture
Final Film, VIZA 658: Experimental Technique, Spring 2024

In my 2024 Spring semester at Texas A&M, I took a motion capture course called VIZA 658: Experimental Technique. The course taught me how to use motion capture data, in order to create an animated short film. For our course assignment, we had to create our own short film with the practice of motion capture . I recorded my motion suit capture data in a stage, at the Star lab at the Texas A&M Rellis Campus. I utilized Epic Game's Paragon character meshes as mannequins for this assignment. Autodesk Motion Builder 3D was used to procedurally retarget the motion capture data from Star lab on to the meshes. Adobe Mixamo was also used to rig and export fbx. files for Motion Builder, and edit character movements. After rigging the characters in Motion Builder, I then uploaded the motion capture data onto Unreal Engine 5.4, for which I used the sequencer to edit the movements for the final render. The plot was created based on Mexican stand off scenarios, such as the famous ending shoot off scene in the 1966 film "The Good, The bad, and The Ugly". The sequence editing and music was then finalized in Adobe Premiere Pro. This assignment was a chance for me to practice motion capture, while showcasing how I can accomplish editing shot angles, sequences, and music.
